Love Is: You
Love.
What does this word mean to you?
For some, it means butterflies and flushed faces. It means whirling feelings and emotional highs. But the purpose of love has nothing to do with emotion. It requires action, sacrifice, and commitment. It commands unconditional favor and unwavering solidarity.
Love is a wonderful thing.
But what are we doing with it, because of it, for it? How are we expressing our love to those who need it most? How do we know who they are?
Five Simple Words : On Grief
When my dad passed away, I was prepared for some things. His death was a gift in the end because he suffered so. I knew the moment Jesus took his hand. It was exhilarating. As a Christian, there were certain things I was equipped for in the days and weeks to follow. The newness of his absence was the one thing (and still is) that I cannot get my head around. The other thing?
The things people say because let’s face it, what do you say?
The Good Dirt About You
Did you know your dirt could be a good thing?
In the grand scheme of things, we are super busy people. Every generation has something to prove to the previous or to the next, and we are all getting busy trying to prove it. The way we work, handle ourselves in social situations and tough spots is about more than our personal record.
People are watching us all the time. We don’t even notice. There are people who take mental notes about everything we do, achieve and conquer. They are also seeing how we react to failures, disappointment, stress, and life in general.
Love is a Verb: Spiritual Completeness
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
This verse strikes me and speaks to me as if I need to evaluate my spiritual maturity.
Everyone comes to Christ in a personal relationship differently. We all know ten-year-old children who have a greater personal relationship with Jesus than a forty-year-old who was baptized at age twelve. The difference is in faith and spiritual education. If are to love the way we are asked to love, then we should be spiritually growing. No one is fully mature, as stated in the next verse, until we are face to face with Jesus. We continue to be “a part” of ourselves, meaning a fraction of who Christ has planned for us. We can grow that part and flourish with the Holy Spirits guidance and the word of God to educate us.
Love is a Verb: Love Conquers All
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Some may ask how does love, a verb, do all these things? Because it is a verb, it can do all things.
In the name of love, we have proven time and time again to accomplish powerful, impactful things while facing adversity. True love always protects the ones fighting for it. It always trusts in the power of truth. It is always hopeful for redemption from affliction of any type. Love always perseveres, which is why it is eternal.
Love and the actions required by us in the name of love always find a way to dispel lies, manipulation and hurt. It stands on the promise and premise of good vs evil- and good comes out on top.
